The environment of the province of Ragusa proposes every year festivals and traditional celebrations, involving the people and crowds of visitors.
A Scicli, one of the most picturesque towns of Sicily,   sumptuous processions and singular dramatisations of liturgical events are celebrated.

Easter in Scicli

In the Easter week, different processions in honor of  Maria Addolorata are celebrated.

In the night between Saturday and Easter Sunday at the church of Santa Maria La Nova is celebrated the Resurration.

First there is a procession dedicated to the SS. Sacramento and death of Jesus, then to commemorate the resurrection, some people take on their shoulders the statue of Risen Christ, called "Gioia", and they take it around the entire city,  shouting << Gioia, Gioia! >> (see video).

Madonna delle Milizie (Virgin of Militias)

ultimate Saturday of May

The last weekend of May takes place the celebrations of the Virgin of the Militias, the Virgin on horse, reminiscent of a miraculous incident in 1091 in defense of the Normans against the Saracens. (See  documentary)

La Cavalcata di San Giuseppe
(The Cavalcade of St. Joseph)

Donnalucata weekend prior to March 19

Scicli weekend following the March 19

The symbol event of the feast of St. Joseph is the cavalcade, a colorful procession of caparisoned horses with trappings of wallflowers and palm leaves, rows of bells and rattles, accompanied by riders in traditional costumes.
The event, which takes place on Saturday night, commemorates the Holy Family fleeing to Egypt, led by St. Joseph.
At the end of the parade, the most beautiful trappings will be rewarded.
On the occasion of the feast of St. Joseph, the ancient port of Donnalucata becomes a gastronomic theater, where you can taste freshly caught cuttlefish in its most total genuineness.
A menu rich in taste, only and exclusively on cuttlefish, cooked in different ways from the valuable hands of fishermen and chefs.
